Let Yourself Become
There comes a point in life when something inside of you starts asking for more.
Not necessarily more money. Not necessarily more success. Sometimes it is simply more of you.
More creativity. More curiosity. More freedom to try something new without worrying about whether you are actually good at it.
I think sometimes we get so comfortable with the version of ourselves that we already know that we forget there could be so many other versions of us waiting to be discovered.
For me, that realization came through something I never expected: making bags.
I have never considered myself a creative person. Honestly, I still draw stick people. When it comes to my children's school projects and arts and crafts, I have always been the person who would rather buy something than sit down and make it myself.
Creating was just never something I thought I was good at.
And then one day, I decided to try.
I picked up yarn and started making something with my own hands.
I did not know what I was doing. I did not have some grand plan. I was not thinking, I am going to start a business.
I was just trying something different.
And somehow, that little decision opened a door inside of me.
I started realizing that maybe creativity was not something you either had or did not have. Maybe it was something you could discover by giving yourself permission to explore it.
The more I made, the more I wanted to make.
And somewhere between the yarn, the stitches, the colors, and the time spent creating, I found something I did not know I needed.
I found a place to slow down.
A place to get out of my head.
A place where I could take a bunch of individual pieces and slowly turn them into something beautiful.
That became part of my healing.
And eventually, it became Bagz by Jaz.
Maybe You Are Becoming Too
I think we sometimes convince ourselves that certain things are supposed to happen at a certain age.
That if we did not discover our passion when we were younger, we missed our chance.
That if we have never been creative before, we probably never will be.
That if we have spent years taking care of everyone else, starting something for ourselves is selfish or unrealistic.
Or maybe we simply tell ourselves, That's just not who I am.
But what if you don't actually know who you are yet?
What if there are parts of you that you have never met because you have never given yourself the opportunity to try?
Sometimes becoming means doing something completely unfamiliar.
It means following that little spark inside of you even when you do not know where it is going to lead.
It means letting yourself be a beginner.
It means making something ugly before you make something beautiful.
It means trying something and realizing you are not good at it yet.
And then trying again.
I think there is something powerful about that.
Because sometimes you do not find yourself by thinking harder about who you are.
Sometimes you find yourself by doing.
By trying.
By creating.
By stepping outside of the identity you have carried for years and asking yourself, What else could I be?
It Is Not Too Late
Maybe you have been thinking about starting something.
Maybe you want to learn how to paint.
Maybe you want to go back to school.
Maybe you want to start a business, pick up a camera, learn an instrument, write a book, plant a garden, or finally try that hobby you have been putting off.
Maybe you do not even know what it is yet.
That's okay too.
You do not need to have everything figured out before you begin.
You just need to be willing to follow the spark.
Because sometimes that spark becomes a flame.
And sometimes that flame becomes a whole new version of you.
Bagz by Jaz started with me simply trying something I never thought I would do.
I did not realize I was starting a business.
I did not realize I was discovering a creative side of myself.
And I definitely did not realize that making bags would become part of my healing.
I just started.
And maybe that is the reminder I needed all along:
You are never too old to become someone you have never been before.
So if there is something inside of you that keeps asking you to try...
Try it.
Let yourself be a beginner.
Let yourself be curious.
Let yourself make mistakes.
Let yourself create something just because it makes you happy.
You never know what part of yourself might be waiting on the other side of I have never done this before.
This is a season of becoming.
And I think I am finally letting myself become.
